What a perfect update to such a classic. My daughter loves it...even though she has trouble playing but give her time and she'll figure it out...we spend time playing this game with her and we love the team work you have to do in order to make it through. A nice change from the original.

For anyone who has played any of the classic Mario games, you'll know what to expect here. It's a combo of Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES), Super Mario World (SNES), and New Super Mario Bros. (DS). It's got that old school charm, Yoshi, and the big coins.
While this is a good thing most of the time it also starts to feel a bit shallow, the game just doesn't feel as new and inventive as it could (e.g. Super Mario Galaxy). Just more of an iterative version of the last with improvements here and there. The biggest of those changes turns out to be both a joy and a source of frustration - multiplayer. While you can now enjoy Mario with your friends and have a good time doing it, you're also likely to get a bit irritated with anyone not at a similar skill level, especially considering the fact that you can "accidentally" kill your teammates. The other sore spot here is that there's no online multiplayer, it really is just a shame and a true sign of the shortcomings that Nintendo's online experience has in comparison to XBOX 360 and PS3.
One really nice thing about the game is that it's approachable for those who don't regularly game, the simple controls, bright colors, and straight forward game play mean that even casual gamers can do this. Again, if you're playing with someone less familiar with a controller it might lead to some form of frustration (I've even seen people get into mini arguments) but just try and leave the more serious dedication and such to playing alone and you'll be fine.
Overall it's a very nice game and the shortcomings are largely part of the inherent charm in the game (online aspect aside) and is more than made up for by the price, $40.

It was for my dad but I never let him play. It is so funy and entertaining. Also puechase the strategy guide for secret items and exits!!!

We are fairly new to Wii. We got our system for Christmas last year. I bought this game in March and was actually really excited about it because I always had the best time with the original Mario. We've had a blast playing it. After a couple of months, we started getting disc error messages. I noticed some scratches on the disc, just along the outside edge of the CD in a perfectly circular pattern. We don't allow our kids to change out the discs, we do it for them. The games are just too expensive not to take some precautions to prevent scratches. So how the scratches got there, I have no idea. I searched all over Nintendo's website, following all trouble shooting tips, but still got the error. Finally I called them, because I read that they'd replace a game in certain situations if it had been less than 90 days. According to my receipt, we'd had it for 87. But they wouldn't replace it and couldn't tell me how it was getting scratched in that way. They offered to buff it and polish it for us, for about the same amount as a brand new game. I said no thanks. I sent it to another CD/DVD/Game buffing place I'd read about, and had it done for a fraction of the cost. All scratches were gone, and it worked great. For about two weeks. Now the same circular scratches have appeared on the disc again, and we're getting the error again. It has not happened to any of our other games. I'm extremely disappointed because right now, this is our family's favorite game to play together, and we have to stop playing for errors. I've done some searches and it appears this could be a flaw with the game because I've read so many other stories of the same problem. I refuse to buy another disc if this is definitely a flaw. It's a great game, it's just a shame we're having so many problems with it.
